"I Am Iranian": Patrick Kennedy Urges Global Action and Endorses Maryam Rajavi’s Democratic Vision

Addressing an international conference at the Italian Parliament in Rome on July 16, 2026, former U.S. Congressman Patrick Kennedy delivered a passionate plea for global solidarity with the Iranian people and their organized resistance. Framing the fight against the Tehran regime as a universal human rights imperative, Kennedy declared: “We are all here speaking one language. That’s the language of human rights.”

The Regime Has Lost All Legitimacy

Kennedy firmly condemned the ruling mullahs as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism and the primary perpetrator of crimes against humanity. Highlighting their squandering of trillions on nuclear weapons, funding of regional proxies (such as Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis), and systematic execution of domestic dissidents, he asserted:

"What kind of government claims legitimacy and tortures and kills their own people? They have lost every shred of credibility to be called leaders of this great country."

Rejecting decades of failed diplomacy and "grand bargains," Kennedy noted that the regime has consistently turned its back on peaceful resolution. However, he emphasized that foreign military intervention is not the solution—because the mullahs’ greatest fear isn't foreign bombs, but their own people.


Standing with the Resistance: A Historical Imperative

Recalling the relentless popular uprisings from 2017 through early 2026, Kennedy called on the international community to decisively support the organized resistance on the ground:

Endorsing the Vision: Kennedy explicitly backed Maryam Rajavi, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and the growing network of MEK Resistance Units across Iran.

Lessons from History: Drawing parallels to his father, Senator Edward Kennedy, who championed anti-apartheid sanctions against South Africa, and the youth who tore down the Berlin Wall, he reminded the audience that authoritarian regimes always fall.


"Man Iranian Hastam"

Concluding his speech with an iconic echo of his uncle President John F. Kennedy's famous "Ich bin ein Berliner" speech, Patrick Kennedy expressed absolute solidarity with the Iranian resistance fighters:

"To Maryam Rajavi, to all of those at NCRI, to all the resistance leaders in Iran, we are with you. Man Iranian hastam (I am Iranian)."

Democratic change in Iran is not a question of if, but when. The world must now choose to stand on the right side of history.
