Rudy Giuliani: MEK is Stronger Than Ever
The Resilience and Growth of the PMOI
Mayor Giuliani accused the Iranian authorities of systematically targeting political opponents, noting that repeated rounds of repression have entirely failed to eliminate the PMOI. He described the organization as a longstanding opposition movement that has survived decades of persecution while developing a comprehensive political alternative under Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s leadership.
Addressing the PMOI's domestic presence, the former mayor highlighted that its activities now extend across all 31 Iranian provinces, placing the organization at the core of ongoing protests:
“The MEK is stronger today than it ever was. It’s represented in all 31 parts of Iran. It’s at the core of these protests,” he stated.
Giuliani also cited statements attributed to Iranian officials acknowledging the PMOI's organizational activities, presenting them as clear evidence that the regime itself regards the movement as its most significant threat. He further pointed to the organization's history of exposing Iran’s clandestine nuclear program, arguing that its intelligence-gathering capabilities demonstrate a depth extending far beyond public demonstrations.
Rejecting Dictatorship in All Its Forms
Turning to the political landscape, Mayor Giuliani firmly rejected the restoration of the former monarchy. He criticized Reza Pahlavi’s political activities and raised serious concerns regarding his reported contacts with personnel associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), emphasizing the danger of replacing one form of authoritarian rule with another:
“So, we’re going to go from a theocracy to a crooked monarchy? No, no. If we’re going to go through all this, we’re going to go through it, so we have a representative democracy.”
A Clear Path Forward: The NCRI’s Provisional Government
Mayor Giuliani referred to the NCRI’s proposed provisional government, emphasizing its firm commitment to organizing free and fair elections within six months of a transition. He argued that these concrete arrangements effectively address any questions regarding what political institutions should replace the existing clerical regime.
He concluded by calling for robust international political support for the Iranian opposition, rather than the deployment of foreign ground forces. Highlighting Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan—which encompasses freedom of expression, gender equality, judicial independence, minority rights, and a non-nuclear Iran—he stressed that the transition is fully organized around these democratic principles:
“The MEK doesn’t need troops on the ground. They’re not asking for it,” he said, defining the primary requirement as international recognition and political backing for the opposition’s stated democratic objectives.
